QEERI-Curtin Corrosion Research Alliance

Curtin University and Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), part of Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU) announce the launch of the QEERI-Curtin University Alliance in Corrosion. The Alliance will be led by Dr Hanan Farhat, Senior Research Director, QEERI’s Corrosion Centre, and Prof Mariano Iannuzzi, Director Curtin Corrosion Centre. 

Under this new alliance, the two corrosion centres are joining forces to tackle some of the most severe and recurring corrosion and materials challenges faced by the oil and gas industry in Qatar and Australia. The partnership established four strategic research focus areas, namely

• Acid Gas Corrosion,
• Corrosion Under Insulation,
• Coatings, and
• Microbiologically influence corrosion.

A Senior Researcher will lead each research theme, with support from the renown investigators at QEERI and Curtin Corrosion Centres. The partnership also provides six PhD scholarships.

The QEERI-Curtin Alliance in corrosion will support the participation of international researchers and promote direct industry-academia synergies.

Dr Farhat and Prof Iannuzzi thank Prof Roy Johnsen, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), for instigating the initial conversations and for his leadership role within the project. They also expressed their gratitude to the leadership of Qatar Foundation, HBKU, QEERI and Curtin University for their support in making the alliance a reality.
